Joseph Gordan-Levitt

You know when people say things come in threes? Granted, thats usually in reference to death but in this case its in reference to Joseph Gordan-Levitt films. Yay! This morning I realised that in the past few weeks I have rewatched 10 Things I Hate About You, 500 Days of Summer and for the first time- 50/50 without realising that my brain was somehow choosing these films based on this actor. By the way, Joseph Gordan-Levitt, if you're reading this (and I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be. Ahem), you seem to choose films with numbers in the title a lot..I'm not saying stop, cause its obviously working for ya but you know, just so you're aware.
Anyways, 10 Things I Hate About You...

..was made in 1999 and I remember watching it the first time around (yes, I'm old.) and thinking it was probably better than most teen films of the time (I refer you to "She's All That") but I also thought (and still do) that Julia Stiles (see Exhibit A, left) is easily the most annoying person ever. Its not a bad film though, Heath Ledger makes his singing and dancing debut:

Everyone else, including Gordan-Levitt do a nice job of this reworking of the Taming of the Shrew. When asked why he did a teen movie (when hes a proper "Actor"-to be said in posh thespian voice) he stated:  "I thought it was better written than all the other scripts I'd been handed. It's like the difference between N' Sync and the Temptations- they're both male groups that dance but the Temptations are amazing and N' Sync suck" (courtesy of http://fuckyeahjgl.tumblr.com/). Indeed.

Just the other day I watched 50/50 and loved it.

The story of a young guy (Gordan-Levitt) who finds out he has a rare spinal tumour, basically it's about how he deals with his disease with the help of his best friend (Seth Rogen), cheating girlfriend (Bryce Dallas Howard), therapist (Anna Kendrick) and over-anxious mother (Anjelica Huston). For such a serious topic it somehow manages to simultaneously be both really humorous and touching. I read an interview afterwards with the screenwriter, who based it on his own experiences dealing with cancer and his best friend in real life was in fact Seth Rogen! Crazy, no?!

Moving onwards to one of my all time personal favourites, 500 Days of Summer. I went to see this in the cinema and by the time I left I was in love with the entire film. It has Zooey Deschanel, Gordan-Levitt AND Matthew Gray Gubler in it, an amazing soundtrack featuring The Smiths, Regina Spektor and the Temper Trap and just in general I love the story, the acting, the clothing, everything. It also features a brilliant dance number to the Hall and Oates classic "You make my Dreams":

Here are some pictures to look at and help you recall what a great film it is:  (Note-check out that manicure at the bottom, no idea who did that as Google Images threw it out to me but how cool is that?! Seriously! I want that persons creativity and ability..I may track them down and somehow steal both..whilst they sleep). LOVE.

  2. Tis indeed but Joe (as I now affectionately refer to him as) also features as a love interest for Julia Stiles's younger sister. It was difficult finding any photos of him in it to be honest, given how great the love for Heath Ledger (may he rest in peace) is. He was definitely in it though..I promise! :-)

  3. I believe you, I was just a bit worried that all these years I was thinking Heath Ledger was someone else!!
As his future wife, I think you're allowed to call him Joe ;)
