It can be all too easy to get caught up in the negatives of blogging- feelings of inadequacy when comparing oneself to other bloggers, inappropriate blog or twitter comments and having to deal with some people's assumption that beauty blogging is unimportant or irrelevant in the general scheme of things. To counteract this, day 4 of #SBBC (find out more HERE) focuses on all the good aspects of blogging.
- Blogging is a creative process. Since I started blogging, I've learnt so much about photography, writing, beauty, feminism, books, travel, fashion, baking, cinema and how to use my computer properly! I could go on but my point really is that it's more than just random scribblings, it's a properly structured thought process to decide what will be an interesting read or a beautiful photograph or a stimulating topic. So really, as well as being a creative process, for me, it's also a creative outlet.
- You meet lots of likeminded people. It's always lovely meeting people with the same tastes as yourself and the Irish beauty blogging community in particular has been fantastic. Supportive, thoughtful people that always have a kind word, whether on twitter or in person at a blogging event, it's been an absolute delight getting to know everyone.
- For me, it's a fun pastime. I know some people work within the beauty industry so for them blogging is an extension of that and is an important part of their career, but for me it's a really lovely way of exploring my interests outside of my career. Of course, it can take up a lot of time but I don't really think of it like that because I do find it so enjoyable. Also, really importantly, blogging has helped me through a really tough time of my life over the last year and a half when I haven't been well- it's been a huge source of comfort to me to have something light hearted and frivolous to distract myself with and I will always be grateful for that.
If you blog then let me know in the comments what you feel the positives are and if you dont blog, have you ever considered starting? If you did but haven't gone ahead wth it, what stopped you? Tell me all!

Yeay for blogging!!
ReplyDeleteYay indeed! x
DeleteThe positives of blogging for me are, it's become a hobby that I have actually stuck to, I've learnt basic html and web design, my writing has improved, I've met some really wonderful other bloggers, and, it makes me happy! I only write about things that light me up inside and this keeps me engaged and hopefully keeps my readers engaged too. One thing I have not done though, is share my blog with all my Facebook friends. Rather, I've tried to earn readers who don't already know me. Maybe this is weird... I'm still not entirely sure ;-) Thanks for a great post :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's not weird at all! That's exactly what I've done too, it definitely takes a bit longer to build up a readership but I agree with you that it's worth it. x
DeleteLove this. I agree with you on the learning aspect, Ive learned so much not just about beauty!. Twitter has also been great for learning new things and seeing peoples opinions on topics. Most of all just getting to talk to like minded people and have fun :)

Definitely! Twitter is fantastic for that alright, there's so many interesting things on it and it's so great being able to chat to so many people about all these different random things! x
DeleteCompletely agree about learning new things, before I started blogging I had very little knowledge of how to do things on a computer. I also love the community,so many lovely girls who are as mad about Beauty as me
ReplyDeleteYes, exactly! It's been great for getting to know people with the same interests! x
DeleteGreat post missus :) Blogging was a great distraction for me too and I don't know what I would have done without it x
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen, great to hear it's been of such benefit to other people too xx
DeleteCould not agree more about the likeminded people! Not one of my friends is into makeup or beauty so to have everyone here is amazing! It also is a brilliant distraction, even if just a natter on Twitter! Glad to have met you through blogging xxx
