Christmas Book Haul!

As always, my loved ones showered me with a fantastic selection of books this Christmas. For me, books make the best gifts so I was delighted to open this lot:

I've wanted to read some of these for ages so can't wait to get stuck in!

I'm a big Sylvia Plath fan and this book is just stunning!
the jolly Christmas postman

I should actually explain this one, I had been ranting on before Christmas about how much I used to love this book when I was small but didn't know where my copy had disappeared to so my husband went off and got me a new one! I loved opening it on Christmas morning and reminiscing, such a lovely gift! If you have kids too, this is such a gorgeous book, full of detail and little surprises on every page (there's a non-Christmas version too).

Lastly, knowing my extreme love for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, himself picked me up the first three graphic novels which follow on the story after the TV show ended in series seven. I've read the first one so far and love it!! It has the trademark Buffy wit (thanks to Joss Whedon for co-writing it!) and the characters are still as well drawn (if you'll excuse the pun). Love it!

Let me know in the comments if you got any books for Christmas and if so, which ones? (I'm nosey like that).

  1. So jealous of the jolly postman, the non-Christmas version was the one book everyone wanted to check out at the school library! I have the first two Buffy graphic novels but I must get some more, very very glad that Joss got to go wild on paper with these because the majority of the plots would not have worked on TV! (Giant Dawn - just NO). Beautiful presents! I was relatively light in the book department this year, I got a giant book of cross stitch borders and alphabets (can never have too many alphabets) and Neil Gaiman's The Ocean at the End of the Lane. Also got Lamb by Bonnie Nadzam, and got an amazon voucher so bought a couple of ebooks. I'm reading so much more this year and I love it! Hope this isn't a passing phase...

    1. Oh Sharon, it was so lovely looking through the Jolly Postman again, love it! Totally agree re giant Dawn..there should be less of her, not more! Oh Lamb is supposed to be great! I got the Neil Gaiman one on my kindle in that sale recently, haven't read it yet but looks really good.

  2. I got House of Leaves, The Dharma Bums and Hell's Angels-but after reading this I think I should've invested in those fabulous Buffy graphic novels! :) x
PS. House of Leaves is well worth a read if you haven't already read it but it's a bit of a challenge and it's of those pesky love/hate books-I personally loved it but a lot don't!

  3. Only book I got for Christmas was The Vintage Sweet Book by Angel Adoree. A friend did send me a copy of Bad Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett over the holidays as well but it wasn't really a Christmas present.

Those are some great picks, I've wanted to read The Luminaries for a while.
